Counterbores

A counterbore is a cylindrical hole with a flat bottom that is used to make another hole bigger. It is also the name of the tool used to make this feature. Most of the time, a counterbore hole is used when a fastener, like a socket head cap screw or fillister head screw, needs to sit flush with or below the surface of a workpiece.
